Tai Chi

Happy Friday everyone!!!  In light of next week’s Lunch and Learn, I’ve decided to do this week’s memo on Tai Chi.  Tai Chi was originally developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that is now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. It is often described as meditation in motion and promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.  Some people believe that tai chi improves the flow of energy through the body, leading to better wellness and a wide range of potential benefits.  Those benefits include:
  • Improved strength, conditioning, coordination, and flexibility
  • Reduced pain and stiffness
  • Better balance and lower risk of falls
  • Enhanced sleep
  • Greater awareness, calmness, and overall sense of well being
Tai chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. In fact, because tai chi is low impact, it may be especially suitable if you're an older adult who otherwise may not exercise.  You may also find tai chi appealing because it's inexpensive, requires no special equipment and can be done indoors or out, either alone or in a group.

Please join us on Thursday, December 13th at the Cane Creek Rec Center at 11:30.  Nikki Desch will be teaching Tai Chi and will also be available to answer any questions you may have.  Hope to see you there!!!
